A Riverhead nonprofit group planned to release a turtle and a seal into the water off the Quogue Beach Village Pavilion during a fundraiser Saturday night.
The seal, Rose, was rescued in Hampton Bay in May. Atlas, the loggerhead turtle, was picked up in New England. According to Rob DiGiovanni, director of the Riverhead Foundation, it will be the first time his organization releases two animals together.
Officials at the marine research foundation equipped both critters with satellite trackers, so they can trace their movements and make sure the animals are doing well in their natural habitat.
