Ridgefield police are warning people about scams that involve dating sites.
In the past few weeks, they have been made aware of several scams in which fraudulent actors create profiles and begin online relationships with potential victims.
Police say the suspects will often say they are from the area, but currently do not live locally due to various circumstances such as being deployed in the military.
Once a relationship is formed, the suspects will ask the victims to complete a variety of tasks, which include sending money, getting access to bank accounts and receive or ship goods from their home.
Police encourage people to be cautious when interacting with individuals they personally do not know.
They add that people should also never send money or valuables to individuals they meet online.
