A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the historic Hunts Point Library to celebrate its reopening following $30 million worth of renovations.
Despite delays for construction and worries about budget cuts, library staff members said residents can finally walk into the new and improved state-of-the-art library.
“It’s such an amazing statement in this neighborhood to have this kind of an architectural gem that says all people need the best,” said Tony Marks, president of New York Public Library. “All people need to be inspired by their spaces.”
Improvements include the expansion of programming spaces, upgraded technology and accessibility improvements throughout the building.
Library hours will resume from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
