Residents on Wilson Avenue in North Merrick say they have a major problem - going without USPS mail deliveries for several days at a time.
“I’m not living on Mars, I’m not living on a mountain. I live in Merrick,” said Heidi Donato. “It’s not a hard place to find.”
Donato said the mail problem has been particularly bad over the past six months.
She said last week, she went without mail for five days.
Donato said she’s also had packages go missing, despite the Postal Service claiming they’d been delivered.
Neighbor Patricia Caruso said the mail comes just a couple of times a week, “three times a week at most.” She said it can be frustrating when they are waiting for something. Her husband, Eugene Caruso, said they're still waiting for tax forms to arrive.
A spokesperson for the United States Postal Service told News 12:
"We are not aware of any mail delays, all mail is being delivered.
The Postal Service wants customers to be aware that we take their concerns seriously and strongly encourage them to contact a postal representative by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS or online at www.usps.com. Doing so helps the Postal Service quickly determine if there is a problem.
We also recommend customers sign up for Informed Delivery, a free service that lets residential customers see what is arriving in their mailboxes by sending digital previews of their incoming mail. These images can be viewed via email or accessed through an online dashboard at informeddelivery.usps.com.”
