Retired FDNY captain from Dix Hills dies from 9/11-related cancer; wake to be held Sunday

A retired firefighter from Dix Hills died this week due to 9/11-related cancer.
Former FDNY Captain Michael Lyons died Tuesday.
Lyons started at Engine 228 and worked his way up to captain at Ladder 30 in Manhattan and Bronx Division 15.
According to a statement from the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, Lyons was honored for many acts of heroism throughout his career, including a rescue at the World Trade Center site days after 9/11.
Wake services for Lyons will be held Sunday at M. A. Connell Funeral Home - in Huntington Station. The first service will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and second service will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Lyons’ funeral will be Monday morning at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Melville.
Lyons leaves behind two children.
