A mobile home park in North Amityville is receiving a facelift, but residents say the changes are creating dangerous situations.
A 13-year-old boy suffered several broken bones after he was hit by a car while riding his bike near the park earlier this month.
His mother says the accident occurred because the mobile home park's main entrance was closed and areas that used to be walkways were opened to vehicles.
"Obviously, drivers didn't know that they just opened them up," says Catherine McMahon, the mother.
After complaints, the Town of Babylon installed new stop signs along the park's side streets. But residents say that wasn't enough.
They created their own handwritten signs.
McMahon and other residents say they feel their concerns are being ignored. They say the town and the developer want them out.
"Most people are poor," McMahon says. "So they're like, 'Oh well.' They don't care."
