Some Long Islanders who are in recovery for addiction are helping to keep Riverhead clean.
The project to clean the streets of Riverhead is sponsored by Mainstream House.
Bobby Hartman, who owns and operates recovery homes for men and women in early recovery from substance abuse, says they offer people the opportunity to work off community service hours if they are court-appointed.
The project is done in conjunction with the Riverhead Business Improvement Management Association.
Hartman says the project is good for both businesses and the Riverhead community. He says it also gives the addicts or alcoholics in early recovery some self-esteem by giving back to the community.
