Environmentalists are asking the Suffolk County Legislature to step in and save county parks from All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) damage.
Richard Amper, of the Long Island Pine Barrens Society, says ATV?s pose the greatest threat to area woodlands and are more problematic than development and contaminated drinking water. Environmentalists are calling for the creation of an ATV park where owners can legally operate them.
Park officials say a task force studied the issue in 2004 and recommended the creation of an ATV park. According to county officials, the Legislature is looking into possible locations to create one.
