Residential school for disabled in Port Jefferson to close
Dozens of disabled young people are going to be affected by the closing of a residential school in Port Jefferson.
The Maryhaven Center of Hope runs a school for the developmentally disabled in Port Jefferson.
A total of 71 students, 48 of them from Long Island, must find another school.
The closure will also affect at least 75 workers including teachers, aides and housekeepers.
Catholic Health Services tells News 12 the costs of caring for the students has risen and state reimbursements haven't kept up.
