A 200-pound pot-bellied pig was taken out of a Bay Shore house where he was locked in a room with deplorable conditions.
The animal was surrendered to Strong Island Animal Rescue League. The group says the pig, now named "Maxwell," was kept in the room for more than two years, surviving on a diet of only Cheerios.
The woman who bought Maxwell three years ago as a mini-pig died shortly after. A friend took over as caregiver but didn't realize how large Maxwell would get.
A veterinarian will evaluate Maxwell this week, after which he will be socialized and put up for adoption.
