Suffolk Republicans made some gains in Tuesday?s elections while results were mixed for Democrats.
Suffolk Democrats lost a seat on the county legislature but still have a 10-8 majority. They lost council seats in Islip and Huntington and failed in their bid for control of the Brookhaven Town Board. Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko, however, was voted in for another term.
In Southampton, Republican Supervisor Linda Kabot was unseated by Democrat Anna Throne-Holst. Kabot, facing DWI charges, conceded her arrest played a part in her defeat.
Republicans now hold all five seats on the Riverhead Town Board and ousted long-time Democratic Supervisor Phil Cardinale.
The GOP?s biggest win came in East Hampton where Bill Wilkinson picked up the supervisor seat and added two council members.
