Republicans pick Nassau Legislator Mazi Pilip to run against Suozzi in race for Santos seat

Republicans have chosen Nassau Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip to run against former Rep. Tom Suozzi in the special election for the House seat left vacant by the ouster of George Santos.
A release put out by the Nassau County Republican Committee said, "Pilip is an effective tax fighter who will prioritize public safety, economic recovery, border security and tax relief in Congress. She will bring a fresh new perspective to Washington, starkly contrasting her from the candidate for the other major political party."
Pilip was born in Ethiopa, is a mother of seven and an Israeli military veteran.
A formal announcement is expected to be made Friday at 12 p.m. at the Massapequa American Legion.
Pilip will be facing off against Democratic Tom Suozzi, who served six years in Congress and was also a former Nassau County executive.
