Long Island Republicans joined together Friday against Governor Eliot Spitzer's (D-NY) state budget proposal.
Republicans claim Spitzer's $120 billion budget distributes too many of the Island's tax dollars elsewhere. Critics believe health care, the environment, education and affordable housing in Nassau and Suffolk will all suffer.
Peter Elkowitz of the Long Island Housing Partnership says the state hasn't given affordable housing groups an increase in funds since 1986. Without an immediate influx of money, he says workers will continue to leave.
Assemblyman Fred Thiele (R-Sag Harbor) says Spitzer's snub has caused assemblymen from both sides of the aisle to unite for the Long Island cause.
