The White House is reportedly considering returning a Long Island mansion to the Russians.
The 14-acre property is located on Mill River Road in Upper Brookville. It was purchased by the Russian government in the 1950s.
Russian diplomats were ejected from grounds in late December during former President Barack Obama's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The White House then accused Russia of using the compound for intelligence gathering. The property has been under the watch of the U.S. State Department since then.
The Washington Post reports that President Donald Trump's administration told the Russians it would consider turning the properties back over if Moscow allows the U.S. to build a consulate in St. Petersburg.
In December, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) said he supported President Obama's decision to evict the Russians. On Thursday, he told News 12 by phone that he would support their return only with a number of restrictions, including taking away diplomatic immunity from the compound and those who live there.
Rep. King adds that for now, this is all speculation. No one in U.S. government has officially confirmed whether the property will go back to Russia.
