A new report shows that crime in the subway system in the Bronx and the city is going down.
According to NYPD statistics obtained by the New York Post, overall crime in the subway system fell nearly 13 percent in 2007. Police say there was a fall in rape, robbery and grand larceny. However, assaults and murders saw an increase from 2006 to 2007, according to police.
Police claim the decrease in overall crime is due to targeting fare beaters. They say many go on to commit more serious crimes. The report also credits a stronger police presence and anti-terrorist units in and around the subways.
