Long Island schools could be seeing a smaller wave of new undocumented children this school year.
A new report from the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement says fewer than 18,000 unaccompanied minors have come to the United States from Central America between October and July.
That number is down from the more than 53,000 between October 2013 and September 2014, according to Newsday.
Only 627 of those have settled on Long Island, compared to 3,000 in the last fiscal year..
