A new budget report has revealed that the LIRR was more expensive to run last year than Metro North.
The finding is from a report by the non-profit group “Citizens Budget Commission.”
The report says the LIRR’s operating expenses reached nearly $1.5 billion 2017.
That number is 11 percent more than Metro North.
The LIRR's labor and overtime expenses were also greater, even though the railroad employed fewer workers.
