A new report says day care centers on Long Island have the most health and safety violations in the state, outside of the city.

The report, from the Independent Democratic Conference, found that many facilities were cited for child abuse, failing to do background checks or supervise children.

The report states that Long Island day care centers have received 1,825 violations and some were repeated for years without any enforcement action.

The IDC pointed to one facility, the Economic Opportunity Commission Day Care in Hempstead, saying it has been repeatedly cited with violations, including for isolating a child in a closet.

The Hempstead center refused to comment on the report.
