The average age of a first-time homebuyer is the oldest it has ever been, according to a report from the National Association of Realtors.

The group says data shows the median age of first-time homebuyers is now up to the age of 40.

The association also says the share of first-time homebuyers is at a record low making up just 21% of the market. The cost to buy a house might have something to do with it.

According to real estate group OneKey MLS, the average price for a home in Suffolk county is an all-time high up to $720,000 in September.

In Nassau, that number is $849,000.
