Rep. Antonio Delgado to be sworn in as NY's lieutenant governor Wednesday

Rep. Antonio Delgado will be sworn in as New York's lieutenant governor Wednesday.
He will be the state's third lieutenant governor in less than a year following the resignation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Aug. 24, which led to now Gov. Kathy Hochul's promotion.
Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned in April after being arrested on federal bribery charges.
Delgado still faces a primary challenge on June 28 from progressive grassroots leader Ana Maria Archila and Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna.
Hochul has called for a special election on Aug. 23 to replace Delgado's open congressional seat for the rest of this term. The race coincides with New York's primary elections for Congress and State Senate.
The NY-19 special election will pit Republican, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro against Democrat, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan.
The winner will go to Congress for the rest of year, but will run again in November for a new full two-year term starting at the beginning of 2023.
Ryan, however, will switch to New York's new 18th district win or lose in November. That means Ryan's name could appear twice on the ballot in August; first to elect him to replace Delgado and second if he faces a Democratic challenger in the primary for New York's 19th district.
Delgado will officially resign from Congress at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the U.S. House of Representatives.
