The Town of North Hempstead opened an investigation Monday into building permits for an employee's New Hyde Park home.
Francine Amato works as a clerk in the Plans Examiner's Office for the Town of North Hempstead and has made several, substantial additions to her house since 2001. The Nassau County Assessor's Office says it has no record of construction permits for Amato's Stevens Avenue home. Unlike the county, town officials say they do have permits for Amato on file, but they are looking into whether they were issued properly and if they cover all the renovations.
Amato's situation echoes a seemingly similar incident in the Town of Hempstead, which led to the building inspector's resignation just weeks ago.
