A 74-year-old registered sex offender was arrested after allegedly stalking and exposing himself to young girls in Wyandanch.
Police say Jeffery Bernstein, of North Babylon, repeatedly stalked the two girls on South 23rd Street. Police say in one of the incidents, Bernstein exposed himself. Another time, he allegedly tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into his car with the promise of potato chips.
A neighbor says one of the little girls took out her cellphone and snapped a picture of Bernstein's license plate. She then showed it to her father, who called police.
Bernstein was charged with stalking, endangering the welfare of a child and public lewdness. He was held on $75,000 bail.
As News 12 Long Island has reported, Bernstein was previously arrested in 2010 and 2011. In one case, he lured an 11-year-old Roosevelt girl to his car after saying he had been robbed and needed help. He served six months in jail.
