According to AAA, a record number of travelers are expected to head out to their holiday destinations. A total of 90 percent of those people will be on the roads.
Christmas and New Year's Day both create three-day weekends this year, which is why AAA says many people have decided to drive.
If you're driving to your destination, officials say the prices at the pump are in your favor.
The average price for a gallon of regular on Long Island is $2.26, according to AAA. On Christmas Eve last year, prices were 57 cents more.
