Two football teams from schools known for their basketball programs will square off in a baseball stadium Saturday.
UConn faces North Carolina in the 2024 Wasabi Fenway Bowl with a chance to clinch the program's first nine-win season in nearly two decades.
"Really excited about this opportunity we have," Huskies head coach Jim Mora says.
It's a chance for the former NFL head coach's team to play under the watchful eye of another former NFL head coach.
"I think if you're a good football coach, you're a good football coach," Mora says. "I think sometimes the Bill Belichick that people see on TV — at least when he was coaching — wasn't the guy that I've come to know over the last 20 or 30 years... he's got a great personality."
Eight-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick recently accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina.
"Had some good years in the NFL that were okay," Belichick said at his introductory press conference. "But this is really kind of a dream come true since I grew up in college football with my dad."
The former New England Patriots leader won't coach the tar heels in this weekend's game, but sources say he could be in attendance at Fenway Park.
"I think he will get great joy out of coaching college football," Mora says. "I know for me, it's brought me great joy. There's just a factor to college football and dealing with this level and this age that's really rewarding as you get a little older in your career. I know he'll be successful."
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN.
