Suffolk SPCA officials are on edge Wednesday after a real-life Godzilla was captured in Sayville.
Officials say the 16-week-old Asiatic water monitor was found under a homeowner?s deck. SPCA Chief Roy Gross says a full-grown monitor could measure 9 feet long and would be capable of eating a child. It is said to be more aggressive than an alligator, which is actually part of its diet. Gross says remnants of birds and mice the lizard was eating were also found nearby.
The SPCA says the monitor may be a pet that escaped or was set free, and they are not sure if any other lizards are still out there. Anyone with information on the water monitor is asked to call the SPCA at 631-382-7722.
