Winter's officially here, but that doesn't mean it's time to hibernate. Ice skating is a great way to get exercise in the colder months.
News 12 caught up with ice skating instructor Wendy Peace, who says it offers great cardiovascular benefits. It also gives muscles a great workout, including the hamstrings, gluts and abdomen muscles.
Peace says skating also helps with balance and coordination. And even at a beginner's pace, skating can burn close to 400 calories per hour.
Ice skating can be affordable, too. There are several centers in the city that offer free after-school skating programs.
