? Winter weather slowed cars and put road crews to work Wednesday across Long Island before the rain came, creating a wet mess. As temperatures dropped, the leftover rain and slush turned into ice.
The snowfall, which started overnight Wednesday, slowed traffic on the Long Island Expressway and various parkways across the area. State Trooper Frank Bandiero said cars on the parkways took it very slow during the morning commute due to the slushy and icy conditions on the road. No major accidents were reported.
As many as 5 inches of snow fell in Patchogue Village, while most of Long Island saw between 3 and 4 inches before the snow turned to rain Wednesday morning.
News 12 Long Island Meteorologist Bill Korbel said a lot of standing water and puddles accumulated on Long Island?s roads and highways.
