? Three Queens schools, including one near the Nassau border, have been temporarily shut down due to a swine flu flare-up.
Crews are working to disinfect two middle schools and an elementary school after the illness cropped up. Four students and the assistant principal at the Susan B. Anthony middle school in Hollis, near the Nassau border, have confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus.
The assistant principal, Mitch Wiener, is hospitalized in critical condition on a breathing tube. Although Mayor Michael Bloomberg initially stated that the assistant principal had pre-existing health problems, Wiener?s son has denied that claim.
Wiener has developed kidney failure and a lung infection.
Three cases were confirmed earlier this week at Long Island schools. Two were confirmed at West Hollow Middle School in Melville and another at Mattlin Middle School in Plainview.
