A Queens accountant accused of making false deductions on tax returns appeared in Central Islip court Friday.
The IRS says the man met clients at their homes, in restaurants and even at 7-11?s and always asked for cash. Officials say he asked few relevant questions and received limited information before illegally preparing tax returns that gave clients large refunds they did not deserve.
The man?s lawyer says his client, who was unable to make $75,000 bond, is innocent and will vigorously fight the charges in court. The IRS reminds that the taxpayer is responsible for his or her tax return, regardless of who prepared it.
