WESTBURY - There's a new push to preserve a piece of aviation history in Westbury.
A monument stands at the exact spot where Charles Lindbergh's plane took off on his solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927.
But activists are angry because the property managers at the Source Mall planted a large garden in front of the monument.
"It's a real shame -- this is such a remarkable place, and it's the most important landmark in the Town of Hempstead, and one of the most important in our country," says graduate aviation student Adam Sackowitz.
Sackowitz wants elected officials to help create a visitors center or exhibit at the site to tell Lindbergh's story.
