As the country heads out for a long Fourth of July weekend, we're taking a look at the prices you can expect at the pump.
AAA estimates that almost 43.6 million people will be hitting the roads over the holiday weekend.
Right now, the Long Island average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.18. That's nearly up $1 from where it was a year ago -- $2.19.
The nationwide average currently sits at about $3.12 per gallon.
But there are some deals to be had. In Nassau, Gas Buddy found that drivers filling up at the Speedway on Hempstead Turnpike in Plainedge are paying $2.97.
And over in Suffolk, it's even cheaper at the Fast Gas on Poospatuck Lane in Mastic, where prices are $2.79.
The AAA averages greatly vary across the country if you're making a longer trek this weekend.
Nearby Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire are around $3 a gallon, and the same can be found in popular tourist spot Florida.
Prices out west are much more brutal -- California is well north of $4, while Nevada is at about $3.75.
