Public Service Electric & Gas of Long Island could receive nearly $15 million in bonus compensation for 2022, according to the state.
This comes despite PSEG missing nearly two dozen performance targets for the year, including call center answer times and minimum scores for customer satisfaction.
It is required to meet them under a contract PSEG and Long Island Power Authority signed in 2021.
The contract was constructed after LIPA sued PSEG, accusing it of poor performance during Tropical Storm Isaias in 2020, which left thousands of Long Islanders without power.
PSEG still gets over $56 million in fixed compensation under the contract.
Executive Director of the Long Island Progressive Coalition Lisa Tyson says it doesn't make sense for PSEG to get any bonus money because it now takes longer to contact them then it did two years ago.
"They're backtracking, we're getting really bad service," Tyson says. "We need to get rid of them."
Other Long Islanders, however, say they are content with PSEG's performance.
News 12 reached out to PSEG but have not heard back.
LIPA released a statement, saying in part, "While we are incredibly proud of the progress our utility has made, the intent of the PSEG Long Island performance standards set by the LIPA Board is to drive improvements for our 1.2 million customers."
