PSEG Long Island says it’s prepared for Sunday’s stormy weather.
Spokesman Jeffrey Weir says high winds and fierce gusts may temporarily prevent workers in bucket trucks from performing some work in unsafe conditions, but he says improvements to the system in general over the last several years mean that the utility is more prepared for storms.
Weir says investments since Superstorm Sandy will help keep the lights on – including an increase in tree-trimming, a hardening of distribution lines and a review of transmission lines. The utility has also elevated and raised all 12 of the substations that are at risk for flooding, he says.
“Just have a little bit of patience and know that we made investments into the system, we’ve got the crews ready and standing by and we will get your lights back on if you are impacted by the stormy weather today,” says Weir.
Weir adds that there are crews across Long Island watching known hot spots.
The utility says any power issues during the storm can be reported on PSEG Long Island's 24-hour hotline, at 1-800-490-0075.
Customers can also register for PSEG Long Island’s "My Alerts" services by texting REG to PSEGLI.
