PSEG Long Island officials say they are looking into the circumstances surrounding an accident that left a Babylon man dead on Dec.11.
Police say Matthew Hillebrand's SUV caught on fire after hitting a giant steel PSEG Long Island pole. The deadly crash occurred on County Road 51 in Eastport.
According to Newsday, it was the first accident involving one of the new steel poles.
Officials say unlike wood poles, steel poles do not snap when they're hit.
Newsday says PSEG is now looking into safety of the poles and whether they need barriers to prevent head-on crashes.
