Prosecutors say a Huntington man faked his own death to avoid going to prison.
They say a copy of a fake death certificate was presented in connection with Robert Berger's pending criminal case. Berger previously pleaded guilty to stealing cars.
District Attorney Madeline Singas tells News 12 that her assistant spotted the forgery.
"What he noticed was that sometimes the font size was bigger in some places and smaller in others…and there was different font styles all together," she says.
Prosecutors say Berger was found alive and well in Pennsylvania.
Berger was arraigned Tuesday morning and is being held.
