A former assistant fire chief for the Westhampton Beach Fire Department is accused of possessing 155 packets of heroin with the intent to sell.
Prosecutor say 32-year-old Kevin Raynor was driving a department vehicle when he was pulled over last November for a traffic violation.
Raynor remained silent as he walked out of court Friday, arraigned on a grand jury indictment. He pleaded not guilty.
Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini released a statement about Raynor saying: "Particularly as a first responder, this defendant should be well aware of the potentially deadly consequences of peddling this poison in our communities."
No one at the Westhampton Beach firehouse would comment on camera, but someone did say that Raynor is no longer with the department.
If convicted, Raynor faces a maximum of nine years in prison.
