The bribery trial of former Suffolk Legislator Wayne Prospect began Thursday with prosecution laying out the case against the once prominent politician.
Jurors were told they would see videotapes of Prospect taking cash and hear wiretaps of him telling a county employee he would save her job if she turned over documents relating to upcoming county projects. Prosecutors also say there are audiotapes of Prospect demanding 20 percent of any profits from an undercover cop posing as a contractor.
Defense attorneys say Prospect did nothing illegal and was getting paid as a private consultant.
