Officials say a five-foot propane tank started to leak and forced cops to evacuate about 40 homes in Ocean Beach.
The incident happened on Evergreen Walk. Police tell News 12 Long Island that a propane tank used to heat houses developed the leak around 10 p.m. yesterday.
Homes were evacuated for several blocks.
Around 1 a.m. the Islip hazmat team was able to stop the leak.
