Hempstead residents flocked to Kennedy Memorial Park on Greenwich Street to take part in the town’s annual celebration.
The event kicked off with a Tyree Curry 5K race, which honors the memory of a beloved teacher and photographer.
Athletes then laced up their sneakers for a basketball tournament, along with soccer, karate and health demonstrations.
The event also featured the Youth and Kids Dance Company and more live entertainment.
Mayor Waylyn Hobbs says the event is a time to celebrate the diversity of the city.
“The entire community is coming together as one and that's what we're promoting unity,” he said.
All four branches of the military recruited at the event. El Salvadoran and Mexican consulates were there to assist with passport applications.
