Prayer, burial service for 15 Twin Parks fire victims to be held Sunday

Funerals are taking place over the weekend for some of the Twin Parks fire victims.
The memorial wall outside the apartment building continues to grow as the community prepares to mourn the fire victims that have yet to be buried.
Some victims will be finally laid to rest Sunday, exactly one week after the tragedy. It will be a chance for the community, family and friends to say goodbye.
The prayer and burial service will be held at the Islamic Cultural Center on East 166th Street, a place where many of the victims belonged and grew in their faith. That service will be for the remaining 15 people who lost their lives in the fire. Organizers say they are holding one massive event to help grieving families move forward.
Families will be saying goodbye to those lost as the community fights for those who survived.
A rally was held Thursday afternoon in front of the high-rise apartment building with members of the African and Hispanic immigrant communities saying that the survivors are not getting the support they were promised. Elected officials responded, saying that the city is in constant communication with the survivors and that hotels will be covered for those displaced through at least Jan. 24.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which said the safety of New Yorkers is its top priority and that all the apartments must be safe before anyone can move back in.
In addition to housing the victims, the mayor's office says it will be covering the costs of the funerals for those who died.
