A new 15% U.S. tariff on South Korean imports is beginning to affect some Long Island businesses, including Beautiology in Mineola.
Owner Marchelle Charles says Korean skincare products are a core part of many clients’ routines, but the cost has climbed.
The tariff, proposed by the Trump administration earlier this year, took effect in November.
In July, President Donald Trump said trade deficits pose an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to national security and the economy, and that tariffs were needed to address those imbalances.
Charles says small businesses like hers rely on local support.
