Thunderbolt 12 rolled out on Pothole Patrol on Friday, taking stock of some rough roads in Brookhaven.
News 12's Facebook commenters pointed Thunderbolt12 toward Old Saddle Road in Ridge to check out some trouble spots. When it arrived, the Town of Brookhaven were working to fill up potholes on the road.
Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro told News 12 that tackling the town's 3,700 lane miles is daunting, but with 16 hot boxes and 128 tons of asphalt, crews are fixing potholes all over Brookhaven.
"It's about making that road safe, and that's what we are doing here," Losquadro says.
Joseph Cuchet, who lives on Old Saddle Road, says potholes have been around this area for years.
"They pretty much destroy cars," he says. "I've been here almost 10 years and it has been like this."
News 12 viewers also shared pictures of major potholes from other parts of Brookhaven, including Hammond Road in Centereach, County Road 83 in Coram and Norris Lane in East Setauket.
Losquadro says Brookhaven recently increased the Highway Department's budget by 50%. He hopes they will start repaving all Brookhaven roads soon, though it will be a long process.
