Potentially dangerous levels of lead were found in the water at several schools in Rocky Point.
They include seven water fountains at Frank Carasiti Elementary School, a sink at Rocky Point High School and another sink at the intermediate school.
The discovery is just the latest school district on Long Island to test positive for contaminated water. News 12 and Newsday surveyed all 124 districts on Long Island. Nearly two dozen of them failed the Environmental Protection Agency's standards.
Some of the other districts affected include Malverne, Three Village Schools, Commack and Northport.
In a letter to parents, Rocky Point School Superintendent Michael Ring says, "The district took immediate action to remove from service the nine affected outlets...Furthermore, the district removed five additional locations from service that revealed concentrations of lead on the cusp of EPA guidelines."
Ring says the district is aiming to have the lead contamination issues resolved by next month.
