A potential staffer has accused Republican New York Rep. George Santos of sexual harassment and violating house employment rules in a complaint to the House Ethics Committee.
Derek Meyers, who says he worked for Santos as an aid, alleges that Santos asked him if he had a profile on Grindr, an LGBT dating app.
Meyers’s complaint describes another incident he claims took place in Santos’s private office while they were discussing constituent letters.
"The Congressman proceeded to take his hand and move it down my leg into my inner-thigh and proceeded to touch my groin,” he said.
The complaint goes on to allege that Santos asked Meyers to join him and others at a bar, which Meyers says he declined. Meyers said Santos then told him "my husband is out of town tonight if you want to come over."
Myers also alleges that after he was offered the aid job, he was told he was technically a “volunteer” until his payroll paperwork was processed. A few days later, he says that job offer was rescinded.
Myers says he also filed a report with Capitol Police making the same allegations in his ethics complaint.
News 12 reached out to Santos’ press office and attorney, who declined to comment about the complaint.
A representative for Congresswoman Susan Wild, the ranking member for the House Ethics Committee, confirmed she received Myers letter but did not elaborate on the matter, citing their strict confidentiality standards.
