For a change, the post office received packages Saturday after Long Island residents delivered as they teamed up to help the hungry.
It is the 15th annual U.S. Postal Service Food Drive, an act of good will that helps feed 259,000 Long Islanders who rely on local food banks. Letter carriers picked up packages of donated food from residents.
The letter carriers hope to collect about 1 million pounds of food that will be distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens across the Island. Postal carriers say they are glad to pick up bags and bags of good will to make a special delivery to those in need.
