Long Island residents packed several malls Tuesday to cash in on one of the year's most enticing shopping days.
With gifts that are sometimes the wrong size or not appealing at all, many shoppers hit the malls the day after Christmas to return and exchange presents. However, many other shoppers surfaced to make use of their gift cards, which stores say accounted for about half of all holiday purchases. Because stores do not count gift cards as revenue until recipients use them, huge sales are offered to tempt people's commercial desires.
While gift cards often seem like the perfect gift, some come with strings attached. Some gift cards have time limits or additional fees. All conditions should be detailed in the fine print on the card.
