STORM WATCH: Intense wind, along with scattered downpours and thunderstorms, this evening
We are continuing to see periods of moderate to torrential rain move across Long Island this evening. Please use caution when traveling.
Visibility is low due to the fog, and it can be very difficult to see in front of you when heavy rain hits. Localized areas of flooding are also likely.
Wind gusts have already been between 30 and 50 mph. Isolated gusts around 60 mph are still possible until just after midnight, leading to scattered power outages.
Temperatures are in the 50s to low 60s until the cold front passes late tonight. A few stronger thunderstorms still cannot be ruled out, but the primary Long Island impacts are times of heavy rain and gusty wind.
A wind advisory continues until 4 a.m. Tuesday, along with a dense fog advisory until 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Once conditions dry out after 1 a.m. Tuesday, temperatures will get much colder. Lows will drop into the 30s by St. Patrick's Day morning tomorrow. It will continue to be breezy, but look better on Tuesday with more sunshine. High temperatures should reach the lower 40s, but the wind will still make it feel like the 30s. At least the weather will be nicer for the holiday!
You can see the future-cast loop below:
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.
