An off-duty Port Authority police officer is being hailed a hero after saving a 2-year-old from drowning at his Merrick home Sunday.
A woman who owns the home where the incident took place on Thelma Avenue told News 12 that her cousin was at the home watching her own kids and the homeowner's 2-year-old son, Antonio, when the incident occurred.
She says Antonio and the woman's 3-year-old daughter were playing in the backyard  when Antonio fell into the pool. The woman says the 3-year-old girl ran inside to tell an adult he was drowning.
Doreen Moran, a neighbor who is a Port Authority police officer, ran to the home when she heard the screams of her neighbor and performed CPR on the boy.
News 12 is told Antonio is expected to be OK and return home Tuesday.
