An 8-year-old girl from the Hampton Bays who was born with a rare genetic disorder received the gift of a lifetime Saturday.
Dan Aube, owner of Pooltastic in Hampton Bays, donated a $30,000 inground pool for Julia Scourakis - who was born with Escobar syndrome.
The congenital disorder causes webbing of the skin and joints in her arms and legs. It can result in restricted movement, facial deformities and a small stature.
Julia's mother, Jill, says her condition prevents her from walking, so the new pool will help her move with ease.
"She feels free," said Jill Scourakis. "She can get around easy. She loves to swim."
Aube says he has four kids of his own and that he was instantly moved by Julia's story. He even asked other colleagues in the pool business to donate their products and services to the family.
