Dog owners who love taking their furry friends to a dog park in East Patchogue say they're fed up with litter and debris.
Mud Creek County Park is a waterfront spot where dogs can run free without a leash. But residents say it's always littered with garbage, and that Suffolk County has done little to clean it up.
News 12 visited the park and saw trash including shards of broken glass, rusty metal and wire. Some dog owners say their pets' paws have been cut by the dangerous debris.
Residents say they spend half their time cleaning up whenever they visit, and they're calling on the county to start pitching in.
"We want to come here and peacefully enjoy the park and not have to worry about garbage and debris, and our dogs getting hurt or anything like that," says East Patchogue resident Martha Gillette.
News 12 contacted Suffolk County for comment. It responded with a statement that reads, "The Parks Dept. is going to be dispatching personnel to inspect the premises and make any repairs necessary."
